NEW Ayrton Cobra IP65

The NEW Ayrton Cobra IP65 is a factory-standard phosphor laser source moving-head luminaire based on the concept of DreamSpot 18K, presented at Prolight+Sound 2016. Designed for long-throw beam and aerial effects in demanding indoor or outdoor environments, Cobra combines a speckle-free laser source tuned for a D65 white point with extreme beam precision and a waterproof, production-ready build.

Laser-source beam performance and long-throw optics

Several years of development have gone into designing and finalising this exceptional luminaire, which offers a next generation speckle-free laser source, designed for rendering a D65 white point that allows perfect colour reproduction. Cobra pushes all the limits when it comes to beam definition, with native contrast never before achieved by a digital light source, an incredible 0.6° beam angle, and an extreme range of focus which permits the beam shape to be adjusted according to the operating distance (XT-Focus™).

Fitted with a 170 mm frontal lens, the proprietary optical system uses 13 lenses, producing an unprecedented 38x zoom ratio and a zoom range of 0.6° to 23°. With fast motorized linear zoom and tempered anti-reflective coated lenses, Cobra is built to maintain tight beam definition for long throws while still offering wider coverage when the rig or venue demands it. Output is rated at 1,544,000 lux at 10 m, with 6500 K color temperature and a CRI greater than 65.

IP65 build for outdoor shows and harsh conditions

Cobra adopts a particularly minimalist style, extremely well-balanced due to the luminaire’s simplified waterproofing EasyProtect-65, and the continuous rotation of the pan and tilt movement, multiplying the possibilities for creating complex effects I.R.S. and making this luminaire a universal tool capable of meeting any challenge in all conditions. Well-suited for use indoors as well as outdoors, Cobra was developed as a unique versatile luminaire that incorporates all waterproof features, while remaining easily accessible and limited in weight.

Able to operate in the most extreme situations, it has a sunlight protection system SunProtect-65 and an integrated heating system that safeguards against temperatures below -20 °C (-4 °F) (ColdProtect-65). The moving-head skeleton is made of aluminium and steel metal plates, with a die-cast aluminium base, aluminium and copper heatsinks, and moulded covers in self-extinguishing fire retardant ABS PC (V0 class). Two-side handles and four heavy-duty feet support faster handling on-site.

Color, gobo, prism, and animation tools for show design

Cobra is provided with a highly innovative colour section including a CMY mixing system and a multi-position instant access wheel equipped with six corrective filters, 21 complementary colour filters, and a variable CTO on two concentric circles (2D-ColorWheel). This configuration supports quick, repeatable looks, from corrected whites to saturated beam colors, without slowing down programming.

Cobra has an unrivalled graphics capability, offering a wide choice of 92 fixed and rotating metal gobos distributed on two wheels specifically created to sculpt light in “beam” mode and incorporates an animation section on the gobo wheel (2D-GoboWheel™). One indexable rotating gobo wheel includes 12 metal gobos plus open position, alongside a fixed multi-position wheel with instant access to 80 metal gobos (gobo diameter: 6.9 mm, image diameter: 4 mm). These gobos can be blended with two sections of four individually combinable rotating prisms, giving designers a broad palette of volumetric and mid-air effects. A light and heavy frost filter complete Cobra’s graphic tool palette.

Precision motion, dimming, and strobe control

Built for repeatable cues and high-speed effects, Cobra uses high-resolution stepper motors operated via microprocessors for accuracy and smooth movement. The moving-head can be operated via either 8- or 16-bit resolution, includes automatic pan and tilt repositioning, and provides infinite pan and tilt rotation for continuous aerial looks and complex movement sequences.

For intensity control, Cobra includes an electronic dimmer from 0 to 100% without colour variation and a strobe effect adjustable from 1 to 25 flashes per second. Rated life (L70) is up to 12,000 hours.

Exterior finish is black (Carbon). Product dimensions are 16.34 in x 26 in x 11 in (415 x 660 x 280 mm) and weight is 73 lb (33 kg). Flight-case foam dimensions are 19.10 in x 22.25 in x 22 in (485 x 565 x 560 mm).
