The NEW City Theatrical SL 5 Top Hat (Pkg of 2) is designed for entertainment lighting applications where you need to control unwanted light spill or reduce the viewing angle to the lens. By adding a top hat or half top hat to the front of a fixture, you can help keep stray light out of the audience’s sightline and off scenery, and reduce the chance of bright source glare on camera.

Light Spill and Glare Control

City Theatrical Standard Top Hats serve two functions in entertainment lighting: to control light spill, or to reduce the viewing angle to the lens. Sometimes poor fixture optics or poorly maintained lenses can cause light to be directed into the audience or onto scenery, and top hats can help control that. It is also often objectionable to the audience or camera to see the bright source of the light and top hats can shield the bright source from view.

Interior Flocking for Reduced Reflection

All of our black top hats and half top hats are flocked on the interior to reduce light reflection. Black flocked interior is standard on all black top hats and half top hats for maximum reduction of glare and spill.
