The Roland V-8 8-Channel Video Mixer expands on the workflow of the legendary V-4, adding more inputs, dedicated computer (RGB) integration, monitor outputs, and additional creative effects for live switching. It is designed for real-time video mixing in concerts, VJ sets, corporate events, worship services, and any production where you need reliable, hands-on control and fast transitions.
Expanded Switching and Live Performance Control
With eight channels and flexible A/B bus operation, the V-8 gives you more sources to work with for multi-camera setups, playback devices, and graphics. Independent faders on both buses let you fade or adjust effect parameters on a per-bus basis, while the master fader (slider bar) provides quick, intuitive control for live operation.
High-Quality Digital Processing
The V-8 provides DV quality video outputs with full digital processing. Internal processing is 4:2:2 full-frame digital, and more than 500 lines of video resolution help maintain image clarity after mixing and effects, which is especially useful when switching frequently or layering sources.
Direct Computer (RGB) Input for Lyrics, Lower Thirds, and Graphics
The V-8 includes a built-in scan converter for direct input of RGB computer signals (VGA to UXGA) via two rear-panel D-Sub terminals. A top-panel selector switch lets you choose between two computer sources. Using luminance key or chroma key, you can key logos or text from your computer over background video, enabling practical overlays such as lyrics, lower thirds, or announcements without additional conversion hardware.
Effects, Transitions, and Compositing Tools
Along with familiar effects such as colorize and negative, the V-8 adds video filters including feedback, afterimage, emboss, and find edge. For compositing, it supports Picture-in-Picture plus luminance and chroma keying. Transitions between the A and B bus include multiple styles of mix, hard or soft wipes, and stretch and slide transitions. BPM sync with music supports rhythmic, performance-friendly timing.
Compatible Control and Audio-Follow via V-LINK
Next generation V-LINK control allows remote operation from Roland PR series video presenters as well as the V-4. The V-8 can also send remote control signals to Roland digital audio mixers such as the M-400 or M-380 V-Mixer, enabling audio-follow. The motorized faders of the M-400 automatically follow the video switching of the V-8, helping you keep audio and video changes aligned without manually riding two mixers at once.
Real-World Use Case
In concerts or VJ performances, images can be projected on a large screen at the back of the stage to create a video performance synchronized to music. You can mix images from a P-10 Visual Sampler, PR-50 / PR-80 Video Presenters, or a computer running VJ software with multiple live images.
